Reviewed on 2023-05-15 by John S. , Torrance, CA United StatesMy son and his friend went on a hike to Kalalau for a few days. The trail is less than a mile from the house. My wife and I went ocean fishing and caught dinner for quite a few days. Hanalei is flush with Hawaiian culture and food. The Tahiti Nui, Kalypso, and The Hanalei Dolphin were our favorites. In the past visits we drove to the south side of the island, but we did not want to spend that much time away from this beautiful property. We frequented the restaurant Opakapka that is walking distance from the house. Very good food including fresh fish. At the end of the day we looked forward to sitting on the beach in front and watching some of the most beautiful sunsets.

Pretty much perfect
Reviewed on 2022-05-26 by Tom P. , Glendale, CA United StatesAs for Waiohonu... we found it to be pretty much perfect and will be back yearly, if possible. If you are looking for 'deluxe' accommodations and need A/C this is not for you. Which is not to say it isn't lovely.. it is!! It's just not 'fancy.'
The location is perfect. And private. While there are houses on either side, the yard is large and the vegetation makes it private. You can lay out in the sun and run around in the house and yard however you like, if you get my drift. The view from the house and the deck is amazing. And the beach is right there past the palm trees. The beach in front of the house is a perfect place to watch the sunrise and sunset, both stunning. You need to walk to the right about 3 houses to get to a perfect place to swim, which we did often. (There is a lot of coral right in front of the house.)
I was impressed by how well stocked the kitchen was with equipment. We hit Costco on the way from the airport and while we ate out a few times, as there are good places to eat in Hanalei, I also cooked a fair amount and, as a chef, I was never really in need. Excellent.
The living area is very comfy, as are both bedrooms. I slept well in the twin bed in the room with two twin beds. My friend won the coin toss and also loved the larger bed in the other bedroom. Again, impressed by the quality. No, there is no A/C but we were never uncomfortable as the breezes were almost constant. With all the screened windows open, the house stayed cool with a lovely breeze.
While we did a few excursions and hikes, I could come to this house for a couple of weeks and never leave and be very content. It's terrific!!

Reviewed on 2019-11-05 by Jody B. , Oakland, CANorth Shore Kauai is the quintessential Hawaii to us. This house is perfect for a stay on the jungly side of the island for two couples or a family of four. Private, quiet, and serene.Great snorkeling 50 yards down the beach. The grounds are beautiful and filled with bird song. The beds are very comfortable. Kitchen is well appointed. Many ceiling fans keep the temperature just right. We will definitely come again!

This was the most relaxing vacation
Reviewed on 2018-04-12 by Paul F. , Pensacola Beach, FLWe were able to have coffee on the beach every morning, snorkel and see the most incredible coral and fish species, walk along a beautiful beach and have a gourmet dinner and drinks at sunset and never have to leave this house. We did enjoy hiking the Na Pali coastline to the Hanakapiai falls and drove around Kauai. The best vacation yet. We will be back.
Truly amazing!!
Reviewed on 2018-01-17 by John N. , Los Angeles, CAWe come to Kauai often. We have already booked our next trip and will be staying right here again. The house sits on a beautiful private section of the beach. It is walking distance to the hotel and restaurant. It has everything you need for a perfect getaway. We disappeared for ten days. Have no idea where the time went, but know we are returning home relaxed. We are sad to leave, but excited to return. Much aloha, Mahalo
Better than advertised
Reviewed on 2017-12-08 by Jensen M. , Dallas, TXWe knew it was beachfront but the photos didn't do justice to the location... back lanai view is straight to the ocean- great place for morning breakfast or cocktail ...or just walk 40 steps and be on the beach with sunrise views of Hanalei Bay to the right & sunset views off Tunnels to the left. They say you should head to Tunnels - only 15 min beach walk ( or Kee) for great snorkeling ( correct) but just 75 yards to the right of your beach area is also great snorkeling ...esp on calmer days- teaming.
The home was very comfortable & well equipped for house supplies and beach stuff (4 great beach chairs) and the concierge that comes with the Rental was very helpful. In summer months it can be a tad warm inside (no AC - that's why 4 stars v 5) but honestly, the ocean winds & ceiling and portable fans make it comfortable.
10 mins to Hanalei ... great authentic beach town
10 min drive to Kee ...great hiking & beaches
Would definitely return

Want to visit again soon!
Reviewed on 2012-10-16 by Jane T. , Loveland, OHStayed here in September 2012 with my husband & daughter. House is very nice and is what you see in pictures. No surprises! Beach in front is a little rocky, but improves with short walk. Nice yard between house and beach! Was actually preferable to the beach. Arrived after dark and house was tricky to find. Recommend to arrive with some daylight for first time visit. WiFi was useless with iPads. Laptop connected ok. Want to visit again soon!
