Event Description:
Makahiki Ma Kapolei is a free, public event celebrating the Makahiki season—a traditional Hawaiian period of peace and harvest. Scheduled for Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the festivities will take place at the pā hula (hula mound) at Puʻuokapolei in Kapolei, Hawaiʻi.
This event honors the contributions of volunteers who have supported the vitality of Puʻuokapolei. Attendees can participate in traditional Hawaiian games, including:
- Ulu Maika: Stone disk rolling
- Moa Pāheʻe: Dart sliding
- Hukihuki: Tug-of-war
- Kūkini: Foot racing
- Haka Moa: Standing chicken fighting
- ʻŌʻō ʻIhe: Spear throwing
- Hāpai Pōhaku: Stone carrying
- Heʻe Hōlua: Hill sledding
These activities offer a hands-on experience of Hawaiian cultural practices.
