Salt Pond Beach is located near Hanapepe, on the West side. As its name would indicate, it used to be a popular location for Hawaiian families, who would come to the beach to collect the natural sea salt left over in pools during the summer months. Today, the area remains popular among Hawaiian locals, and it’s common to see families collecting the salt and red soil in saltpans for use in medicine and cooking.
Thanks to its gentle surf and sandy expanses of beach, Salt Pond is a great place to bring the whole family or teach kids and novices to bodyboard. It’s also an excellent destination for snorkeling, and the ends of the crescent beach offer clear water that’s perfect for exploring.
